New Midnight album "'Rebirth By Blasphemy' !

"'Rebirth By Blasphemy' is a rebirth," states Midnight's sole driving force, Athenar. "It's a change in life and it's a rebirth of doing whatever the fuck you want and seeing what happens after that. It's about saying yes, taking opportunities, taking a fucking chance." These sentiments are backed up by the notorious - and prolific - underground band's trademark blend of speed metal, black metal and punk rock, sounding both fuller and more raucous than ever before. "Overall, I would say the sound is pretty vicious, vicious but I keep things hooky, and that's what I like it to be. I want to still keep it raw but at the same time I wanted this record to be a little more hi-fi, which was my only plan when I started making it."

Dating back to the band's inception in 2002, vocalist/guitarist/bassist/drummer Athenar has always known exactly what he wanted Midnight to be, and over the course of countless demos, EPs, compilations, splits and three full-lengths he has stayed true to his roots. Building up a strong reputation and a rabid following in the underground, Midnight's most recent opus, 2017's Sweet Death And Ecstasy, stood as their most accomplished work to date. "Looking back on that record I think it's a fantastic piece of work, really. It's pretty varied, it has a nice bookend front and back song. I think the lyrics are thought provoking, and I think it'll be a pretty important piece of work over time, up there with the Mona Lisa." Making the jump to Metal Blade Records did not mean any change in the way Athenar went about making Midnight records. "I never really thought about writing a follow up to 'Sweet Death'. If a song comes it comes and where it goes is wherever it goes, but nothing is ever really intended as 'this song will be on the new album'." There is also no denying that, like its predecessors, Rebirth By Blasphemy is a ruthlessly catchy collection, every song, vicious as they are, wielding the kind of hooks that sink deep and don't let go, and this too came naturally. "There's no real intent. I think a rock song in general should be catchy, so if someone thinks it's catchy that's a good thing. If they don't think it's catchy then they probably don't have ears." While the likes of opener "Fucking Speed And Darkness", "Escape The Grave" and "Warning From The Reaper" are all d-beat-driven thrashers, they don't lack when it comes to hooks, and "Rising Scum", built on a titanic stomping beat, reins in the speed but is easily one of the standout tracks on the record, Athenar referring to it as being "quite 1979 Priest-like, just with its drum and vocal."

When it came to penning lyrics for the record, Athenar's perspective shifted over the course of the writing process. "I would say I started out in a very positive frame of mind. One of the first tunes written was 'Escape The Grave', and from there I went on the positive path - and then it turned negative by the end of the album. The title track is very negative lyrically, so I ended it again with complete and utter disgust for humans in general, but then you want that to come out of you. Just like you take a poop and you take a pee, you want the rotten shit to come out of your body, because if you keep the rotten shit in your body, it'll rot you internally." Handling every instrument himself and being quite unfussy when it comes to production typically means that the recording process is a straightforward one for Midnight, and this time was no different. Staying in his home town of Cleveland he opted to record at Mercenary Studios with the assistance of Noah Buchanan, laying the drums down in a day, the guitars in a little more than that, bass in a few hours and then tracking the vocals to two or three songs a day, depending on how his voice was holding up. "I think there's really no production value on the album, it's really just get in there, press record and see what happens. Maybe you can tell that the sessions went pretty quickly when you listen to it. There are so called mistakes, of course, but I wouldn't have it any other way." He also wouldn't have it any other way when it comes to touring this latest collection hard, with a lot of dates with a variety of bands already locked down. "It's the rebirth, it's saying fuck it and getting out there and doing what you're supposed to do, and we're supposed to play music. If people want to damage their ears by listening to it that's welcomed."

Mark Tremonti's Review of The New Van Halen 2011 Album!

ALTER BRIDGE/CREED guitarist Mark Tremonti, who is friends with VAN HALEN bassist Wolfgang Van Halen, recently told Ross Ford, a morning radio show host on Colorado's 94.3 KILO, that Eddie Van Halen's son invited Tremonti to VAN HALEN's 5150 studio to watch Eddie, Wolfgang and drummer Alex Van Halen rehearse. During the visit, Mark got to hear VAN HALEN's entire album, which he said sounded like "old-school VAN HALEN."

"What makes it so great is that they took what they could from all their old demos back in the '80s and pretty much did what they could to create songs out of old ideas, so it sounds like vintage VAN HALEN," Tremonti said. "I didn't hear any vocals — David was not there. It was just the three of them. The music sounded like very authentic, old-school VAN HALEN."

Listen to Curl Of The Burl By: Mastodon - New 2011 Song - The Hunter

There is nothing better than waking up on a Monday and seeing a new Mastodon track is available. The track is called "Curl of The Burl." Are Mastodon singing about trees? Because, nothing goes better together like Mastodon and trees (see what I did there?). The track sounds great, I am on my third listen and loving it. Here is the track:

EVILE: 'Five Serpent's Teeth' 2011 Album Artwork Unveiled

The cover artwork for "Five Serpent's Teeth", the third full-length album from British thrashers EVILE, can be seen below. The CD was once again recorded with producer Russ Russell (NAPALM DEATH, DIMMU BORGIR) at Parlour Studios in Kettering, U.K. and is scheduled for release on September 26 via Earache Records.

Regarding the new album cover, EVILE vocalist and rhythm guitarist Matt Drake stated, "As is always the case with EVILE, we try and do things a bit differently from what we've done before, so we fancied something a bit more design-orientated this time around. It's been done by a great artist by the name of Gustavo Sazes and he really came through for us as we were struggling to find something that visually accompanied the music, so hats off to the man! Make what you will of any meaning you think the cover may hold, much the same as you will be able to do with the lyrical content of the album; we know what it means to us, so enjoy!"

"Five Serpent's Teeth" track listing:

01. Five Serpent's Teeth
02. In Dreams of Terror
03. Cult
04. Eternal Empire
05. Xaraya
06. Origin of Oblivion
07. Centurion
08. In Memoriam
09. Descent Into Madness
10. Long Live New Flesh

"Eternal Empire" is now available for purchase at iTunes.

Commented EVILE lead guitarist Ol Drake: "There's such diversity through this album that I simply can't wait for people to hear these tracks. We spent a long time in the studio and at home figuring out the best order we could place these tracks in to flow perfectly through the album. The tracks go from the stomping heaviness of 'Cult' to the eeriness/melancholy of 'In Memoriam' to the pure insanity of 'Descent Into Madness'."

Chickenfoot - Bigfoot - New 2011 Song - To Be Released In July

CHICKENFOOT's second album will be released on September 27. The CD's first single, "Bigfoot", is scheduled to hit the airwaves sometime in July.

Bassist Michael Anthony, who turned 57 this month, described the new CHICKENFOOT album as "a lot heavier than the first record."

CHICKENFOOT is the rock supergroup featuring former VAN HALEN singer Sammy Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith.

Although Hagar stated in March that CHICKENFOOT's second album would be titled Chickenfoot IV" (Four), Anthony told the Van Halen News Desk that the band eventually decided against the idea.

The new CHICKENFOOT CD's initial recording sessions were overseen by Mike Fraser, a Canadian producer, engineer and mixer who has previously worked with AC/DC, METALLICA and AEROSMITH. Other songtitles set to appear on the album include "Last Temptation", "Something's Gone Wrong", "Dubai Blues", "Different Devil", "No Change", "Who's Next" and "Astral Years".

Chad Smith recently confirmed that he won't tour with CHICKENFOOT this year in support of the band's second album due to scheduling conflicts with his main group, the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.

CHICKENFOOT's self-titled debut disc came out in June 2009 and was certified gold for sales of more than 500,000 copies.

**Viral Video** PANTERA 'Metalhead Baby' Is A YouTube Hit

A new video clip of pint-sized PANTERA fan Jonah headbanging to the band's classic song "Fucking Hostile" has gone viral, having already been viewed nearly 100,000 times. In addition to thrashing about to the tune, Jonah's routine "is a masterpiece of choreography," according to Carbonated.tv, "as his little hand grooves in time with the distortion-heavy riff about halfway through. . . Sometimes he punches the air with two fists (not an amateur move), sometimes he goes into full spin mode (even if he does get a little bit dizzy there, whoops!)."

A posting on PANTERA's official Facebook page reads: "It's either there when you're born or not! Pantera Metal Head Baby has gone viral! Just about overnight the vid has made it to the front page of Aol.com, Tosh.0, Huffingtonpost.com, Mostwatchedtoday.com, Ebaumsworld.com, Ryanseacrest.com, Digg.com, and many many more. Visit the original YouTube page and blast that thing over a million hits."

Dream Theater - New Single "On The Backs of Angel" 2011

"On The Backs Of Angels", a brand new song from DREAM THEATER, is available for streaming at the Roadrunner Records YouTube channel. The track comes is off, "A Dramatic Turn Of Events", which is scheduled for release on September 13. The CD was mixed by Andy Wallace.    "On The Backs Of Angels" lyrics:

Standing on the backs of angels
Destined to create
Mounting the attack
While heroes carry the weight

We spiral toward disaster
Survival fading faster

Riding out the wave
Content to feeding the machine
Bleeding us to death
The new American dream

You're blinded by your hunger
Beware, your days are numbered

Tears fall from the shameless
Shelter me, guide me to the edge of the water
Selfless are the righteous
Burning me, lead me like a lamb to the slaughter

Burning lines drawn in between
What is right and what is wrong
Victims of the radar
String us along

We're onto your agenda
The dead are wrong to nowhere

Tears fall from the shameless
Shelter me, guide me to the edge of the water
Selfless are the righteous
Burning me, lead me like a lamb to the slaughter

[solo]

Tears fall from the shameless
Shelter me, guide me to the edge of the water
Selfless are the righteous
Burning me, lead me like a lamb to the slaughter (End of lyrics)

"I'm incredibly psyched with the way this album came out and can't wait to share it with everybody," guitarist John Petrucci, who also serves as the producer for "A Dramatic Turn Of Events", said.

"We have poured our hearts and minds into the creation of this album," keyboardist Jordan Rudess offered. "All the life-changing events that surrounded us before, as well as during the whole process, fueled our desire to dig deep within ourselves and create the best music we possibly could."

Vocalist James LaBrie said, "In the grand scheme of DREAM THEATER's career, the last several months have been such an incredibly positive, fulfilling and rewarding experience. The new songs and sound has never been so spirited or rejuvenating. I cannot wait for every one of our fans to sink their audio senses into this batch of tunes."
